Built by an operator, for operators

For more than 30 years, I've worked as a board operator, lighting designer and technical director: one-nighters, festivals, galas and corporate events. Some shows are planned down to the last cue. For others, you have no idea what's coming until you walk in the door.

You know the ones. The spots you programmed for went out on another gig, so the rental house swapped in a different brand. Fixtures nobody mentioned show up on setup day, just when you thought you had it all figured out. And all through the show, requests keep coming at you from every direction.

Over the years, I've trained, troubleshot and supported techs on most of the major console brands. For a lot of operators, I became the person to call when something went sideways. Working on all those desks taught me which ones get you out of trouble fast, and which ones slow you down.

As I approached my sixties, one question kept coming back: what if I could design my own console? What would it look like? What would it do? What would I do differently?

Then I met a manufacturer in China that was building a console very close to what I had in mind, and that was willing to listen and work with me until it checked every box. My list:

  • Lots of faders

  • Big screens

  • Lots of physical DMX outputs

  • Easy to program

  • Lots and lots of prebuilt effects

  • Battery backup

  • Roadworthy but easy to move: it fits in my car, and I can load it by myself

  • Above all, affordable enough that every board op can own one

That became the AURACUE 245.

Support, any way you want it

A console is only as good as the help behind it. AURACUE support is available by email, text, chat and phone. To take that one step further, we are about to release an AI assistant that answers from the official AURACUE manual and gives you a targeted answer in seconds, even in the middle of a show.

Is it a replacement for the big flagship consoles?

No, and it isn't trying to be. If the rider calls for a specific console, get that console. If you can't get one, don't take the gig. But for so many shows, the right console is simply the one that gets the job done, ideally one you know inside out. AURACUE is built to be that console.

Who's behind AURACUE

The AURACUE brand is owned by Backstage Cowboys Inc. in Montreal. The consoles are manufactured in China and distributed in Canada exclusively by DataVisual Marketing Inc. in Ottawa. Units are in stock and ready to ship.
